Can Breathwork help Anxiety, PTSD or a controlling mind?

When we feel anxious we are often actually a bit stuck in the future. Trying to plan, control, sometimes even change what has not yet happened. Is this recognizable?

Nervous System regulation

Anxiety is an incomplete fight & flight response in the nervous system, and flight responses can happen when we feel helpless, stuck, trapped. The feeling, or inner voices, of “ I can't handle this, I need to get out of this”.

First, when these feelings arrive, can you look around? Notice where you are. This is the present moment. Maybe even physically feel your body. Hands on your knees, feet, heart.

Is it possible your mind is giving you a disproportionate response to what's going on?

And when you make this decision, do not make it about “WHO you are” because of “HOW you are”, i.e in high anxiety.

It is just a visiting emotion. When you can land in that, you invite a deeper self trust, even forgiveness.

It is just a visiting emotion.

You are not your anxiety. You are having an anxious feeling.

Return to the present. Your body. Your self. You. Right here. Right now.

Leave the pain and take the gain.

It might sound strange, but to leave the pain can be hard!! But, it will make you stronger and lighter. Think of it the same way a stain on your favorite sweater can with ease be removed by instant action, but be in need more effort the longer it sits. The same is it with you and events or traumas that has affected your life. So start practice or integrate patience and kindness with yourself. Healing is an ongoing work, and time for you is needed.

Because we repeat what we don’t repair.

Healing wounds and negativity we can do by looking and acknowledge it. And then tackle it head on with inner work. Where to start? Well, that can be a challenge to know, and anywhere is perfect.

Pain comes to us all in some way or the other. And it is your experience and feelings of it that is important, not the painful event itself. So do not compare and think that your trauma or stuff is less important than someone else’s.

Your life purpose is your highway

Your life purpose is your highway. Your fast track to abundance. So figure your purpose out, work on it and abundance will show.

And just because you have experience pain, does not mean you life’s purpose is wrong. Maybe you just took the scenic route. You are worth it all 💕

The dark is only a resting place for the light

All of us have a shadow self within. Pathways created by pains, traumas, fears we have experienced throughout our life. Showing up as visiting emotions. They are not you though...

Shadow work can create empowerment

The shadows may sound negative, scary and dark. But you feel them for a reason, and by leaning in to what you feel, it can liberate your inner truth. From a dark place, a new light can be born. Like a seed, planted in the dark soil, to then be nurtured and grow into a beautiful plant.

It can give us the opportunity to explore contrasts within our lives. Moments that have redefined us as stronger, wiser, softer when coming out on the other side of a challenge. It can give us the courage to rise and open our hearts to love again, after a scare or a heartbreak.

A direction when feeling lost

The Shadows can point us to the direction of forgotten dreams, or creative urges we for some reason have not yet been able to live through. The energy when not succeeding can be quite depleting to our vitality and spirit. So, maybe it is time to look within. To hear what the heart desires, what our inner voice whisper or get clear in how to support these dreams to come true.

When we find the courage to gently invite the darkness within, including the shame, anger, fear, guilt we might be surprised by the feeling of freedom when we initiate stepping into a greater version of ourselves. Accept what has been, learn from our experiences but also learn to accept and to let go.

Breathing exercise to relieve anxiety?

Ok, but if you would like to get rid of feeling anxious? Not get more panic attacks? Work on your PTSD? Well, Breath work is one of the most powerful and most effective tool I personally have ever stumbled upon.

I have been breathing consciously with yoga and meditation for 20+ years, different breathing techniques and breathing exercises. However, it was not until I tried a specific style of Breathwork (2-part breathwork, transformational breathwork, holotropic breathwork) that my own inner healing journey softened. It helped me to let go of control and surrender to the present moment.

When the breath leads the way, we can go beyond our controlling and conscious mind, which really is only about 5% of our mind. The rest, 95 %, of our actions, decisions, emotions, autonomic nervous system and behavior are ruled by the subconscious, according to neuroscience.

Deep breathing can work as a bridge, opening up for healing on a completely different level. Breathwork enables us to get in contact with old traumas and blocked or stagnant emotions. Which we quite often in our everyday life try to avoid, sometimes even push down in the belly, hips and armoring our chest. Putting the lid on so to say.

In Breathwork we breathe deep in our belly, letting our diaphragm work, and we release stress, anxiety, blockages out of our nervous system and we can create calm, clarity and gratitude.

Is Breathwork easy?

Yes. And no.

Many things that is worth our wild, takes some resilience to get through initial resistance. As if it is easier to have control, than letting go of the same. Many times, the more resistance you feel, the more important it usually is.

There is no more powerful experience than letting the control vaporize, knowing you are held anyway. Free to breathe. Free to feel You! Let the outer world meet the inner world. Releasing the need for masks, feel with all your heart.

You don't have any old traumas?

No, maybe not. That's awesome! You still get the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual benefits that breathwork provides.

Sometimes though, it's not really big things that might be holding us back. Small things, stuck in mind, can affect us too. And memories from early childhood might feel small for us in an adult age, but could have been seen as big through the eyes of a child. And after all, we are all emotional sponges between the ages of 0-7.

Breathwork releases stress, anxiety, symptoms of burnout and feelings of overwhelm. Breathwork can increase performance, creativity, get you in the flow and just make you feel good!
