6 things to do to Break Free from Feeling Stuck

Feeling stuck in life is something we all experience at some point, whether it’s in our career, relationships, or personal growth. It can feel like you're trapped in a cycle, unable to move forward or see new opportunities. The good news is, feeling stuck doesn’t have to last forever. With the right mindset and tools, you can shift your energy, break through the stagnation, and move toward a life that feels more aligned and fulfilling.

1. Acknowledge the Feeling of being stuck

The first step to breaking free is acknowledging that you feel stuck. It might sound simple, but accepting that you're in a stuck place is essential to moving forward. Sometimes, we try to ignore or suppress our feelings, thinking that we should just "push through." But denying the feeling of being stuck can actually keep us trapped longer.

Instead, take some time to reflect on your emotions. What parts of your life are making you feel stagnant? Is it a sense of dissatisfaction with your work or relationships? Are there fears or limiting beliefs that might be holding you back? Can you feel this sensation in your pshysical body? If so, where and how does it feel? Write these down and give yourself permission to feel what you're feeling without judgment. Self-awareness is the key to creating change.

You plant your roots in the dark and use the power and nourishment to grow tall towards the light. And also remember, you can also pick up those roots, and plant them elsewhere. Never really stuck.

2. Shift Your Perspective

Often, the feeling of being stuck comes from seeing things through a limited lens. We may focus on what’s not working, or believe that we have no control over our circumstances. Shifting your perspective can help open new doors.

Ask yourself these questions:

  • What if this moment of being stuck is actually a chance for me to grow?

  • What lessons might be hidden in this situation?

  • What would it feel like to look at this challenge as an opportunity?

  • Who do I want to be? (i.e not, who am I?)

By changing your perception, you allow space for new insights and possibilities to emerge. Sometimes, being stuck is not a sign of failure, but a sign that you’re ready for a deeper transformation or new direction.

3. Take Small, Intentional Actions

When we feel stuck, taking big steps can feel overwhelming or even paralyzing. But small, intentional actions can make a huge difference. Think of it as starting with baby steps toward change. These actions don’t have to be drastic or life-altering—just something that shifts your routine or opens a new perspective.

If you're feeling stuck in your career, instead of jumping straight into a job search where we often start searching from the perspective of where we are, and what we do in our current position. One small step could be to actually spend time writing down the parts of your job you like and want more of, and parts that you dislike and don't need going forward. It makes it easier not to adapt just to get a job, but to get the job you want.

If you need a creative boost try learning a new skill or exploring an area of interest. If your personal life feels stagnant, try something new like joining a group or starting a creative project. Even something as simple as reorganizing your space can create new energy and clarity.

These small actions build momentum, helping you to break free from the feeling of being stuck. Each step you take is a victory and a sign that you’re moving in the right direction.

And, it it is the creativity or drive in itself that is the challenge, I urge you to use the technique of “morning papers”

4. Unlock creativity with morning pages

This practice was popularized by Julia Cameron in her book The Artist’s Way, and personally - I love it! Morning pages are a form of free writing where you write continuously for a set amount of time (typically 10 minutes) or a set number of pages (usually three). The idea is to write anything that comes to mind—there's no structure, judgment, or editing involved. It’s simply a way to clear your mind, get your creative juices flowing, and bypass any mental blocks.

The goal isn’t to write something polished, but to release any mental clutter and allow your creativity to flow freely. People use this practice for various purposes: clearing emotional baggage, solving problems, and sparking new ideas.

It is a wonderful tool for unlocking creativity and clearing mental space, but also as a way of creating a non-demanding daily ritual

5. Reconnect with Your Body and Breath

Stagnation in your thoughts and emotions can often be felt physically as tension or discomfort in the body. This trapped energy can make the feeling of being stuck even more intense. Practices like breathwork, yoga, or even going for a walk can help release this tension and clear your mind.

Breathing techniques such as deep diaphragmatic breathing, conscious connected breathing, Transformational Breathwork help to regulate the nervous system and restore balance. When you connect with your breath and body, you create space to release negative energy and invite in new, vibrant energy.

Physical movement, in general, is a powerful way to reset your energy and restore flow in the body. When you move, you release stuck energy and gain clarity, which helps you see things from a new perspective.

6. Trust the Process

It's important to remember that the feeling of being stuck doesn’t last forever. Like all phases in life, it is temporary. Sometimes, the most transformative moments come from times of stillness and uncertainty. Trust that life is unfolding in its own timing, even if you don’t have all the answers right now.

Instead of focusing on trying to force a solution, allow yourself the space to breathe and trust the journey. Sometimes, the right path reveals itself when you stop trying so hard to control everything. In moments of stillness, we create space for new possibilities and fresh perspectives to come in.

Final Thoughts:

Feeling stuck is a normal part of life. It's often a sign that you're ready for change or growth, but you just haven’t figured out the next step yet. By acknowledging your feelings, shifting your perspective, taking small actions, and reconnecting with your body, you can begin to release the stagnation and move forward.
